Rail spotting in Faridabad: A photo essay

Indian Railways is probably the most quixotic entity in India. The middle classes have shifted en masse to Air. So now trains serve the poor & some not so poor. And much like all services that cater to the poor in our "socialist" country, it has a bad safety record, the platforms are unkempt & no one can predict its future.

However, Indian Railways & its trains still carry a lot of charm for a lot of people. The platforms are a beehive of activities & the wonderfully slow & sluggish pace of Indian trains make sure that you enjoy the journey to the fullest - much like pondering over a thought, slowly.

So here's a little photo essay on what I spotted in the Faridabad Railway Station one fine late December afternoon.

This is as I entered the station. Everyone seems to be waiting for the train to arrive. My friend Paplu Paliwal is checking his mobile for the latest business mails.
